Doda, January 19, 2025 – The Doda Police recently conducted an extensive awareness program aimed at educating the public about the newly amended criminal laws in the region. The program was held across various schools, community centers, and the Town Hall in Doda to ensure that the people of the area understand the procedures, benefits, and implications of the newly introduced criminal laws: Bharatiya Naya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA).
The event was graced by SSP Doda, Sh. Sandeep Mehta (JKPS), who emphasized that the primary goal of the program was to spread awareness among the general public about these three updated criminal laws. The laws are designed to modernize the criminal justice system in India, ensuring better protection of citizens and a more efficient legal process.
The awareness sessions were organized in different parts of the district, including Gandoh, Bhaderwah, Thathri, and Doda, with the objective of reaching every corner of the district. The initiative targeted schools, community hubs, and key public spaces to make sure the information was accessible to people from all walks of life.
During the sessions, police officials, including subdivisional police officers and station house officers (SHOs), led discussions and provided in-depth explanations of the new laws. They elaborated on the implementation of these laws, detailing how they would impact local law enforcement practices, citizens' rights, and public safety.
A key focus of the program was educating the public, especially students and those vulnerable to cybercrimes and online frauds, on how to protect themselves and their families. The officers encouraged active participation and shared practical tips on avoiding becoming victims of cybercrimes, which are increasingly prevalent in the digital age.
In his speech, SSP Sandeep Mehta assured the community that the awareness drive would not be limited to this one-day event. He stated that the police would continue organizing similar programs throughout the year and would extend their outreach to villages, panchayats, and educational institutions as part of a long-term initiative. These efforts will remain in place even when schools and colleges reopen in the region, particularly in the remote and hilly areas.
The initiative is a part of Doda Police's broader mission to keep the public informed about their legal rights and the changing landscape of criminal law. By engaging with local communities and encouraging dialogue between law enforcement and civilians, the police hope to build a more informed, law-abiding society, equipped to handle the challenges of modern-day crime.
