J&K United School Teachers Association Convenes Key Meeting to Address Teachers’ Grievances
Jammu, May 4: The Jammu and Kashmir United School Teachers Association held a crucial meeting today under the leadership of its President, Sh. Pardeep Singh Jammwal, to deliberate on the growing concerns of the teaching community across the Union Territory.
In the meeting, President Jammwal patiently listened to the grievances of the teachers and assured them of timely redressal. The discussion focused on several critical issues impacting the efficiency, morale, and welfare of school teachers.
Key issues raised during the meeting included:

1. Timely Distribution of Free Textbooks: Urgent need for the complete and timely supply of free textbooks for students from Class 1 to 8.

2. Appointment of Aayas in Pre-Primary Sections: Demand for the engagement of helpers (Aayas) in all schools having more than five students enrolled in nursery sections, from the beginning of every academic session starting April 1.

3. Relief from Non-Academic Duties: Teachers urged exemption from non-academic assignments such as BLO duties, surveys, and other administrative tasks that interfere with teaching responsibilities.

4. Mid-Day Meal Scheme: Immediate release of cooking costs for the Mid-Day Meal (MDM) scheme to ensure its smooth operation.

5. Honorarium for Cook-Cum-Helpers: Proposal to raise the honorarium of MDM cook-cum-helpers from Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 5,000 per month.

6. Post-Facto Approval for Higher Education: Request for formal approval of higher education qualifications obtained by teachers from recognized universities.

7. Contingent Staff Payments: Demand to enhance the honorarium of contingent staff currently receiving only Rs. 30 to Rs. 60 per month, to a minimum of Rs. 3,000.


8. School Infrastructure: Concern over the lack of boundary walls in many government schools and a call for their immediate construction to ensure safety.


9. Portal Management Support: Recommendation for the appointment of special assistants to handle various educational portals such as U-DISE, Aadhaarshila, Samiksha, and Swift Chat attendance systems.


10. Unified Attendance System: Appeal to consolidate the multiple attendance systems into a single, efficient method to reduce the burden on teachers.

11. Inspection Fee Waiver for Government Schools: The association opposed the charging of inspection fees by JKBOSE from government schools, highlighting the lack of available funds and demanding government funding if the fee is to be continued.

The meeting witnessed enthusiastic participation from several notable members of the association, including Rajeev Sharma, Raj Kumar, Sunil Tappa, Surinder Singh, Roop Lal, Abkesh Raj, Rajeev Singh, Lakhwinder Singh, Vijay Kumar, Ratan Chand, Ravi Kumar Sharma, and Ashok Kumar Sharma Kulwant Raj, among others.

The association reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for the rights and welfare of the teaching fraternity and pledged to continue its efforts at all relevant platforms until their demands are met.
