Samba, December 13: A District Level Advisory Committee (DLAC) meeting on Food Safety, Healthy Diet, and Eat Right initiatives was held at the District Headquarters in Samba, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Sh. Rajesh Sharma. The meeting aimed to reinforce food safety measures, promote healthy eating habits, and implement the "Eat Right" campaign across the district.
During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized the importance of adhering to Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) norms. He stressed integrating food fortification into government-run schemes such as the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) and the Mid-Day Meal program to enhance nutritional outcomes for children and women.
Key initiatives were also discussed, including the deployment of Mobile Food Testing Vans to ensure on-spot testing of food samples, the Food Safety Training and Certification (FoSTaC) program for food business operators, and the Repurpose Used Cooking Oil (RUCO) initiative to curb the misuse of used cooking oil.
The Deputy Commissioner directed special squads to conduct rigorous market inspections to ensure the availability of safe, hygienic, and quality food products. Vendors found violating food safety standards would face strict legal action.
Furthermore, the meeting resolved to organize awareness programs targeting food vendors, ASHA workers, and Anganwadi workers to spread awareness about safe food handling practices at the grassroots level. This initiative aims to create a robust network of informed stakeholders committed to ensuring food safety.
The Deputy Commissioner urged all departments to work collaboratively for the effective implementation of these initiatives, ensuring a healthier and safer food environment in Samba district.
The DLAC meeting concluded with an appeal to the public to adopt healthy eating habits and actively participate in the "Eat Right" campaign to contribute to a healthier society.
