37 Bottles of Illicit Liquor Seized; Bootlegger Arrested by Udhampur Police
In a significant crackdown on illegal activities, the District Police Udhampur apprehended a man and seized 37 bottles of illicit liquor during a routine patrolling operation at the Garhi-Chopra Shop market. The accused has been identified as Rohit Sharma, son of Rattan Lal, and a resident of Garhi.
The incident occurred when a police team from Police Station Rehambal, led by its Station House Officer (SHO), was conducting routine patrolling in the market area. Rohit Sharma's suspicious behavior caught the attention of the police when he attempted to flee upon spotting the patrol team. Acting promptly, the police intercepted and detained him for frisking and questioning.
During the search, the police recovered 37 quarters (250 ml each) of JK Special Whisky, which were illegally kept in his possession. On being questioned, Sharma failed to provide any valid documentation or explanation for possessing the liquor.
The accused was arrested on the spot, and the illicit liquor was seized as evidence. Following the incident, a case has been registered at Police Station Rehambal under the relevant sections of the law, and further investigation is underway to uncover the source of the illegal liquor and potential links to a larger network.
The District Police Udhampur has reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order in the region and urged the public to cooperate in reporting illegal activities. This seizure is part of ongoing efforts to curb the menace of bootlegging and other unlawful activities in the district.
