Earlier today, Omar Abdullah, leader of the National Conference (NC), visited the Warwan Valley in Kishtwar district to meet with families affected by a recent devastating fire in Mulwarwan village. The fire, which tore through the remote area, left numerous homes destroyed and displaced many families. Abdullah expressed deep sympathy for the victims and reassured them of the government’s commitment to providing immediate relief and long-term assistance to help rebuild their lives.
Omar Abdullah was accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, Cabinet Minister Satish Sharma, MLA Inderwal PL Sharma, and senior officials from the civil administration and police department during his visit. Together, they assessed the damage and discussed relief measures for the affected community.
During his interaction with the victims, Abdullah voiced his frustration with the lack of basic facilities in the region. He pointed out that, despite nearly a decade passing, the area still lacks essential infrastructure, including fire stations and emergency response vehicles. Abdullah emphasized that this negligence is unacceptable, particularly in a region prone to such disasters.
With the National Conference now at the helm of the Jammu and Kashmir government, Abdullah promised that his administration would focus on ensuring that far-flung areas like the Warwan Valley are not left behind in development efforts. He stated that the government's priority will be to ensure equitable growth across all regions of Jammu and Kashmir, with special attention on building vital infrastructure in remote areas.
Omar Abdullah's visit comes as part of the NC government's broader agenda to address the needs of underserved regions and provide swift and sustainable support to those impacted by natural disasters. The affected families welcomed his visit, expressing hope that the promises made would translate into meaningful action in the near future.
Local officials have been instructed to expedite relief efforts, including temporary shelters, food supplies, and medical assistance for the displaced families. Additionally, plans are being drawn to rehabilitate the affected village and improve the region’s infrastructure, including the establishment of much-needed fire stations and better access to emergency services.
