Raghav Chadha Raises Concern Over Expiry of Unused Mobile Data in Parliament

New Delhi, March 22, 2026:
Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha has raised a significant consumer rights issue regarding the expiry of unused mobile data in prepaid recharge plans offered by telecom companies.

In a statement shared on social media, Chadha highlighted that most telecom operators provide plans with daily data limits such as 1.5GB, 2GB, or 3GB per day, which reset every 24 hours. However, any unused data at the end of the day is automatically forfeited, despite users having paid for the full amount.

๐Ÿ“Š Key Concern Raised
Chadha explained the issue with an example:
If a user is billed for 2GB of daily data but consumes only 1.5GB, the remaining 0.5GB expires at midnight. There is no refund or carry-forward option for the unused data.

⚠️ Policy Under Question
According to Chadha, this system is not accidental but a deliberate policy followed by telecom companies. He argued that it forces consumers to either use the data unnecessarily or lose it entirely.

๐Ÿ›️ Issue Raised in Parliament
The MP stated that he has raised this concern in Parliament, questioning why consumers should lose data that they have already paid for. He emphasized that unused data should be carried forward to the next day or billing cycle, ensuring fair usage and value for money.

๐Ÿ“ฑ Impact on Consumers
The issue affects millions of mobile users across India who rely on prepaid plans. If addressed, the proposed change could significantly improve consumer rights and transparency in telecom services.

๐Ÿงพ Conclusion
The debate has sparked wider discussion on whether telecom policies need to be revised in favor of consumers. Many users are now demanding more flexible plans that allow data rollover instead of daily expiry.
