The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has issued an important order granting an extension in the timeline for one-time exemption in favour of teaching and non-teaching staff of the School Education Department who acquired higher qualifications during service without prior permission.
As per Government Order No. 106-JK (Edu) of 2026, dated March 20, 2026, the designated committees have now been directed to complete and submit recommendations by March 31, 2026.
📌 What is the Order About?
The order pertains to employees who obtained Post Graduate (PG) or other higher qualifications through distance or online mode during their service without seeking prior approval from the administrative department.
Earlier, under Government Order No. 188-JK (Edu) of 2024, such employees were granted a one-time exemption, and committees were constituted to verify the genuineness and equivalence of these qualifications.
⏳ Why the Extension?
The School Education Department observed that several cases were still pending at the level of Directorates of School Education (Jammu and Kashmir).
Following a review meeting chaired by the Commissioner/Secretary, it was decided to extend the deadline to ensure that all pending cases are properly examined and finalized.
🏢 What Happens Next?
Committees will verify:
Authenticity of degrees
Equivalence of qualifications
Recommendations must be submitted by March 31, 2026
All other conditions of the 2024 order will remain unchanged
🟢 Who Will Benefit?
This decision will benefit:
•Teachers and staff who completed PG or higher qualifications during service
•Those who could not obtain prior departmental permission
The move is expected to provide relief to many employees whose cases were pending for approval.
