Kathua, March 25, 2026:
Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Rajesh Sharma, conducted a detailed inspection of the Lakhanpur corridor to review proposed rejuvenation works aimed at enhancing the district’s key entry point.
During the visit, the DC was accompanied by senior officials from various departments, including State Taxes, PWD, BDDA, and Municipal Committee Lakhanpur. The team assessed plans focused on adaptive reuse of old buildings, beautification, and development of modern welcome infrastructure.
The Deputy Commissioner emphasized transforming underutilized structures, including the old State Taxes building, into functional and visually appealing spaces through innovative design and proper planning. He directed the Public Works Department (PWD) to prepare a comprehensive redevelopment proposal, incorporating landscaping, face-lifting, public conveniences, and other essential services.
Special attention was given to improving the overall ambience, traffic management, cleanliness, and visitor amenities along the corridor.
The DC also inspected the area near the Lakhanpur main bridge, where discussions were held regarding the installation of a welcome gate. He instructed officials to finalize an aesthetic design reflecting the cultural identity of the region.
Reaffirming the vision behind the project, the Deputy Commissioner stated that the initiative aims to develop Lakhanpur as a model gateway to Jammu & Kashmir, urging all departments to work in coordination for timely implementation.
