LOP Sunil Sharma Exposes Omar Abdullah-Led NC Government for Failure in Flood Relief
Jammu, August 31: Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma today strongly criticized the Omar Abdullah-led government, accusing it of failing to provide adequate relief to the victims of recent floods and landslides in Jammu.

Sharma said that for over two weeks, heavy rains, cloudbursts, and flash floods have caused widespread devastation in the region, leading to the loss of lives, livestock, and homes. “Yet, even after five days, the government has not restored basic services like electricity, water supply, and road connectivity,” he remarked.

Highlighting the dire situation in Chisoti, Vaishno Devi Ardhkuwari, Reasi, Mahore, and Rajgarh areas of Ramban, Sharma said that many families have been left homeless while the administration has failed to act with urgency.

Praising the Centre’s response, he noted Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Jammu as a sign of the Prime Minister’s commitment to the affected regions. “Whenever disaster has struck, the Indian government, particularly Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has extended generous support to J&K. The Modi government will ensure restoration and rehabilitation by providing manpower, machinery, and financial aid,” Sharma stated.

He also termed the current relief package under SDRF and CM’s Relief Fund as grossly inadequate. “A mere Rs 1.35 lakh for a fully damaged house is insufficient even to lay the foundation. The state government must announce a substantial package to ensure proper rehabilitation of victims,” Sharma added.
