Big News: Demand Grows to Include 5-Year RET Teachers’ Service in Regular Government Service Record

Education Frontline Report – Jammu & Kashmir / Nationwide

Once again, the education sector is abuzz with discussions regarding the Rehbar-e-Taleem (RET) teachers and their demand to include their five-year service period under the RET scheme in their regular service record. Teachers’ associations across Jammu & Kashmir and other parts of the country have raised their voices, stating that if the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) is being considered a benchmark of merit and dedication, then the five years of service rendered by RET teachers should also be recognized and counted as part of their official government service.

According to teacher representatives, those who worked under the Rehbar-e-Taleem scheme for five long years, serving in schools and improving education standards, have yet to receive any official acknowledgment or service benefits for that period. They emphasize that this five-year service is not only a mark of their experience and dedication but also represents their significant contribution to the education system.

The teachers argue that—

> “If the government considers passing the Teacher Eligibility Test as a mark of a true education warrior, then the five years of hard work and service under the Rehbar-e-Taleem scheme should also be recognized and included in the official service record.”

Teacher organizations further demand that these five years of RET service be added to regular service so that teachers receive fair treatment in terms of pension, promotion, and seniority.

They have also appealed to the authorities that the TET exam should not be made mandatory for RET teachers, as they have already proven their ability and teaching skills through years of practical experience.

Key Demands of RET Teachers:

1. Inclusion of the 5-year RET service period into regular government service.

2. Recognition of this service in the official service record.

3. Grant of seniority benefits based on total service, including RET tenure.

4. Exemption of RET teachers from the mandatory TET requirement.

Teachers believe that this step will not only provide justice and dignity to educators but also strengthen the education system, as experienced teachers will continue to serve with renewed motivation and morale.

Now, all eyes are on the government to see what stand it takes on this long-pending and genuine demand. Teachers across the region remain hopeful for a positive decision this time.
