SAKINA MASOOD ITOO RAISES CONCERN OVER COMMUTERS’ HARDSHIPS DUE TO FREQUENT CONVOY MOVEMENTS ON NATIONAL HIGHWAY

Srinagar, October 30: Minister for Health and Medical Education and Social Welfare, Sakina Masood Itoo, has expressed serious concern over the difficulties faced by commuters due to frequent security convoy movements on the Srinagar–Anantnag–Kulgam–Qazigund National Highway. She has urged the authorities to introduce practical traffic management measures without compromising essential security arrangements.

Taking to social media platform X, the Minister highlighted how prolonged traffic restrictions are affecting ordinary citizens, students and patients travelling along the busy highway.

She pointed out that ambulances are often stranded, students miss their classes, and commuters are forced to wait for 15 to 30 minutes. In certain cases, the delays reportedly extend to several hours due to convoy movements.

Questioning the hardships faced by the general public, Itoo said that ordinary citizens should not have to suffer unnecessarily while travelling on an important national highway.

The Minister appealed to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and the concerned authorities to examine the issue and formulate a balanced mechanism that ensures adherence to essential security protocols while facilitating uninterrupted movement of emergency vehicles and reducing inconvenience to commuters.

Emphasising the importance of a people-centric approach, Itoo maintained that security arrangements are paramount, but the welfare and convenience of citizens must also receive equal consideration.

“Security and compassion must go hand in hand,” she stressed.
