Gulmarg, October 2, 2026: Hon’ble MLA Gulmarg, Pirzada Farooq Ahmad Shah, inaugurated a newly developed playfield at Lalpora village along with a water supply facility for the newly developed colony in the area.

The inauguration of the playfield was marked by an exciting cricket match between Lalpora Lions and Lalpora Kings, with Lalpora Lions emerging victorious after an impressive performance.

Congratulating the winning team and appreciating the efforts of all participating players, the MLA said that sporting activities provide young people with a healthy and positive platform to showcase their talent, build confidence and develop a spirit of teamwork.

Addressing the gathering, Pirzada Farooq Ahmad Shah urged the youth to become ambassadors of Jammu and Kashmir by promoting the values of unity, peace, brotherhood and sporting excellence. He also called upon young people to stay away from drugs and other harmful activities and channel their energy towards sports, education and other constructive pursuits.

“Sports are not only important for physical fitness but also help in building discipline, teamwork, confidence and a positive outlook among young people,” the MLA said.

He stated that focused efforts would be made to develop the Gulmarg constituency as a sports hub, with improved sports infrastructure and greater opportunities for local youth to participate and excel at different levels.

While inaugurating the water supply facility, the MLA highlighted the importance of basic amenities, particularly access to safe and reliable drinking water. He said that providing essential services to the people remains a top priority and assured that sustained efforts would continue to improve water supply and other basic facilities.

The MLA also interacted with local residents and youth during the programme. Residents of Lalpora, particularly the youth, expressed gratitude to the MLA for his efforts in fulfilling their 25-year-old demand for a playfield and other essential facilities.

The MLA congratulated the organisers, players and local residents for making the inauguration a vibrant community event.
