Anantnag, October 2, 2026: Anantnag Police continued its action against the illicit trade and trafficking of narcotic substances, arresting two alleged drug peddlers during separate naka-checking operations in the district.

At Sarnal Chowk, a police party from Police Post Sherbagh intercepted and apprehended Danish Ahmad Shah, son of Abdul Rahim Shah, resident of Khanawari, Mattan. During a personal search, police said 1 kg 38 grams of a charas-like substance in powder form was recovered from his possession.

In connection with the recovery, FIR No. 332/2026 under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Anantnag, and investigation has been initiated.

In another operation, a naka party from Police Post General Bus Stand apprehended Mehraj Iqbal Bhat, son of Mohd Iqbal Bhat, resident of Khanabal, at Tarbal Chee Bridge. Police said 7.25 grams of a charas-like substance was recovered during his personal search. Further investigation is underway.

Anantnag Police reiterated its commitment to sustained action against the illicit trade and trafficking of narcotic substances.
