WASHINGTON, September 16, 2026: The U.S. House of Representatives voted 220–204 on a war powers resolution seeking to end the president’s authority to continue military operations against Iran without congressional approval.

The resolution, sponsored by Rep. Seth Moulton, would require congressional authorization for continued U.S. military involvement in hostilities with Iran, while allowing forces to remain in situations involving the defense of U.S. or allied personnel from imminent attack.

The vote renewed debate in Congress over presidential war powers and the constitutional authority of lawmakers to approve or restrict U.S. military action.
