Washington, September 5: U.S. President Donald Trump has granted clemency to 30 people this week, according to White House pardon official Alice Marie Johnson.

Johnson, who oversees the administration’s clemency efforts, announced the actions on Friday. The clemency grants were issued by Trump on Thursday.

Among those receiving clemency is Emory Jones, a longtime associate of rapper Jay-Z. According to Johnson, Jones served nearly 16 years in federal prison on drug charges before being released in 2010 following efforts that included a letter from Jay-Z to a judge seeking a reduction in his sentence.

Jones later worked as an executive at Jay-Z’s Roc Nation entertainment company and co-founded the Paper Planes clothing brand.

Other recipients reportedly include a former Philadelphia union boss who was convicted of bribery and a former U.S. Navy sailor who was imprisoned for firearms-related offenses.

Clemency can include presidential pardons, which forgive federal criminal convictions, as well as commutations, which reduce prison sentences.

Trump has granted pardons and commuted sentences for more than 1,700 people since beginning his second presidential term in January 2025, according to Reuters.

The latest clemency actions add to Trump's extensive use of presidential powers concerning federal criminal cases during his second term.
