Srinagar, September 1, 2026: The Women’s Wing of the Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party held a protest at Press Colony in Srinagar against the Omar Abdullah-led government over the recent increase in electricity tariffs.
The protesting women raised slogans against the tariff hike and expressed concern over the additional financial burden on households. They demanded that the government reconsider the decision and provide relief to consumers.
The protesters said that rising electricity costs would particularly affect middle-class and economically weaker families. They urged the administration to take immediate steps to address public concerns and ensure affordable electricity for consumers across Jammu and Kashmir.
The protest remained focused on the demand for relief from the increased electricity tariffs, with the participants calling upon the government to review the decision in the larger public interest.
