JAMMU & KASHMIR: Chief Minister chaired a high-level meeting to review the Draft Jammu & Kashmir Hydropower Policy 2026, with a focus on accelerating the development of the Union Territory’s hydropower resources.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister reviewed the performance of the existing policy and directed that the proposed new policy should provide a clear framework for faster harnessing of J&K’s hydropower potential, increasing power generation capacity and strengthening the overall electricity sector.

The Chief Minister emphasised the need for sustainable and responsible development of hydropower resources. He stressed that the new policy should contribute to energy security, economic growth and wider regional development across Jammu & Kashmir.

The proposed policy is expected to provide greater impetus to the hydropower sector while supporting long-term power availability and the broader development of the region.
