Amaravati: Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan launched India’s first non-GMO, high-expansion popcorn maize hybrid seed in Andhra Pradesh, highlighting the importance of technology, innovation and self-reliance in transforming Indian agriculture.

Addressing the event, the Vice President said that advancements in agricultural technology and indigenous innovation can play a crucial role in improving farm productivity, strengthening value chains and creating new opportunities for Indian farmers and agri-businesses.

He described the development of the indigenous popcorn maize hybrid as a significant example of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, noting that the achievement demonstrates India’s growing capability to develop innovative agricultural solutions domestically.

The Vice President also praised the journey of Gourmet Popcornica, highlighting how a small initiative originating in Andhra Pradesh has developed the ambition to reach global markets. He emphasised that a small beginning should lead to a bigger vision and a bigger dream.

The newly launched hybrid seed is expected to contribute to the development of India’s popcorn sector by offering a locally developed, non-GMO option with high expansion characteristics.

The launch marks another step towards strengthening indigenous agricultural innovation and promoting self-reliance in the farming and food-processing sectors.

The Vice President called for continued investment in technology, research and innovation to make Indian agriculture more productive, competitive and globally oriented.
