Lucknow: Ahead of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, the Yogi Adityanath-led government has taken a major decision regarding the security of political leaders.

According to reports, the state Security Headquarters is preparing to provide bulletproof jackets to 44 political leaders, including Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and BSP supremo Mayawati.

The Security Headquarters has reportedly procured the bulletproof jackets at a cost of around ₹10 lakh. Apart from opposition leaders, 11 ministers of the state government are also set to receive the protective gear.

The move comes ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections and is aimed at strengthening security arrangements for leaders assessed to require additional protection.

The distribution of the bulletproof jackets is expected to be carried out as part of the state’s broader security arrangements for political leaders and public representatives.
