Kharkiv, August 18: A Russian missile attack killed 10 people and injured at least 18 others in the village of Pechenihy in Ukraine’s northeastern Kharkiv region on Tuesday, Ukrainian officials said.
The strike hit a busy intersection in the village, near a post office and shops surrounded by residential buildings. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy condemned the attack and said Kyiv would respond.
Reuters footage from the scene showed damaged buildings, burned-out vehicles and emergency responders at the site. Local officials said several homes, shops, a café, a post office and vehicles were damaged.
Ukraine’s Prosecutor General said the attack involved two Banderol cruise missiles. Russia had not immediately commented on the reported strike.
The attack comes amid an intensification of aerial warfare between Russia and Ukraine, with both sides carrying out increasingly frequent long-range missile and drone attacks.
