Rural India Needs Stronger Focus on Diabetes Prevention and Healthcare: Dr Jitendra Singh

New Delhi: Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh has called for making diabetes prevention and healthcare a national priority, particularly in rural areas where greater awareness, timely screening and regular medical follow-up are essential to tackling the disease.
Dr Jitendra Singh launched the RSSDI Diabetes Rural Outreach Digital Portal and the ‘VISHWAS’ Diabetes Awareness Video Library as part of efforts to strengthen diabetes awareness and healthcare outreach across rural India.
Addressing the initiative, the Minister emphasised the need for a comprehensive approach to diabetes management, focusing on awareness, early detection, timely treatment and regular follow-up.
The RSSDI Rural Outreach Programme has already reached around 30 villages across several states, taking diabetes awareness and healthcare information closer to rural communities.
The newly launched digital portal is expected to help streamline the registration of patients and maintain systematic records related to treatment, follow-up and health data. Such digital tools can support healthcare workers and medical professionals in monitoring patients more effectively.
The VISHWAS Diabetes Awareness Video Library is aimed at providing accessible health information and spreading awareness about diabetes prevention, screening and management.
The initiative highlights the growing importance of combining digital healthcare technology with grassroots outreach to address lifestyle-related diseases and improve access to healthcare services in rural India.
Dr Jitendra Singh’s call for greater attention to diabetes prevention comes amid the need to strengthen community-level healthcare and encourage people to undergo timely health screenings and adopt healthier lifestyles.
The initiatives by RSSDI are expected to further support awareness, early diagnosis and continued care for people living in rural communities.
