Poonch, August 15, 2026: District Police Poonch has intensified its ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking and illegal possession of narcotic substances, with Police Station Surankote arresting two suspected drug peddlers in separate operations and recovering contraband from their possession.

In the first operation, a police team from Police Station Surankote apprehended Sulman Amin, 20, son of Mohd. Amin Khatana, resident of Lasana, Tehsil Surankote, at Jogi Morh. During a search, police recovered 8.49 grams of a heroin-like substance and 4.98 grams of a ganja-like substance from his possession. He was arrested and the recovered substances were seized. Police have registered FIR No. 266/2026 under Sections 8/20/21/22/25 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Surankote.

In the second operation, another police team apprehended Asif Iqbal, 28, son of Ashaq Hussain Bhatti, resident of Fazalabad, Surankote, at Samote, Surankote. Police recovered 20.19 grams of a ganja-like substance from his possession. He was arrested and the contraband seized. In this connection, FIR No. 267/2026 under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Surankote.

The two operations resulted in the combined recovery of 8.49 grams of heroin-like substance and 25.17 grams of ganja-like substance.

Both cases are under investigation. Police are working to establish the source of the recovered contraband and identify possible backward and forward linkages in its supply and distribution network. Further efforts are also underway to identify other individuals connected with the suspected narcotics network.

Poonch Police reiterated its zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and drug peddling, stating that sustained checking, surveillance and targeted operations are being conducted across the district to prevent narcotic substances from reaching vulnerable sections of society, particularly the youth.

Police have also appealed to the public to remain vigilant and share information regarding drug peddling, trafficking or illegal possession of narcotic substances. The identity of informers, police said, will be kept confidential.
