Islamabad, August 21: Pakistan’s former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan was shifted from Adiala Jail to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad for a medical examination and treatment following an order by the country’s Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court had directed authorities to transfer the 73-year-old former premier to the private hospital amid concerns raised over his health. A multidisciplinary medical team, including specialists, was tasked with examining him.

Khan’s family and supporters had expressed concern over his health, including reported problems with his eyesight. The government, however, has maintained that his medical condition was being properly monitored.

After undergoing an overnight medical examination, Khan was declared medically fit by doctors and was subsequently transferred back to Adiala Jail, according to Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar.

Khan has remained in prison since August 2023 following convictions in several cases, while he and his party have maintained that the cases against him are politically motivated.
