Kathua Police Organises Legal Awareness Campaign on New Criminal Laws at Basantpur School

KATHUA, August 31, 2026: Kathua Police organised a legal awareness campaign at Government Higher Secondary School, Basantpur, to sensitise students and faculty members about the newly enacted criminal laws.

The programme was conducted under the overall supervision of SSP Kathua Mohita Sharma, IPS, and on the directions of DySP DAR Kathua. The campaign was organised by the SHO of Police Station Lakhanpur and the Incharge of Police Post Basantpur.

During the interactive session, police officers briefed students and teachers about the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA).

The officers highlighted key procedural reforms, updated legal provisions, citizens’ rights and digital reporting mechanisms, including e-FIR and Zero FIR. Special emphasis was also placed on provisions concerning women and child safety.

The initiative aimed to promote legal literacy among students, encourage civic responsibility and strengthen community-police relations.

Students and faculty members actively participated in the session and sought clarifications on contemporary legal developments and student-centric safety measures. The school administration appreciated Kathua Police for conducting the awareness programme.

Kathua Police reiterated its commitment to organising similar legal awareness programmes in educational institutions across the district.
