KATHUA, AUGUST 16: In a major action under the Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyan, J&K Police Kathua has booked and detained a habitual drug offender under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act, 1988.

The action was carried out under the overall supervision of SSP Kathua Ms. Mohita Sharma, IPS. On August 16, a police team from Police Station Kathua, led by the SHO, executed the detention warrant issued by the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, against Rupesh Kumar alias Bobby, son of Kapoor Chand, a resident of Chack Drab Khan, Kathua.

Police said the accused is a habitual drug offender and history-sheeter, with four NDPS cases registered against him at Police Station Kathua:

1. FIR No. 251/2020 under Sections 8/21/22 NDPS Act

2. FIR No. 381/2020 under Sections 8/21/22 NDPS Act

3. FIR No. 164/2021 under Sections 8/21/22 NDPS Act

4. FIR No. 90/2026 under Sections 8/21/22 NDPS Act

A detention warrant under the PIT-NDPS Act, 1988 was issued by the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, vide Order No. PITNDPS 59 of 2026 dated August 7, 2026.

Police stated that a detailed dossier was prepared against the accused in view of his repeated involvement in drug-related activities and was submitted to the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, for preventive detention. Following due process, the detention warrant was issued and subsequently executed by Kathua Police.

The accused has now been lodged in jail.

Kathua Police said the action is aimed at preventing repeated involvement in illegal drug trafficking and disrupting the activities of habitual offenders. Local residents have appreciated the police initiative against the menace of drugs in the district.
