New Delhi, August 17: Senior officials from BRICS member countries held detailed discussions on key environmental and climate-related priorities during the Senior Officers’ Meeting of the Environment Working Group (EWG) and the Contact Group on Climate Change and Sustainable Development (CC CCSD) at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.
The meeting was organised under India’s BRICS Chairship 2026 and brought together senior representatives from Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates.
The deliberations focused on priority areas related to environmental protection, climate change and sustainable development. The participating delegations exchanged views with an emphasis on cooperation, mutual understanding and collective action among BRICS member countries.
During the proceedings, the participating delegations congratulated India on its successful leadership as the BRICS Chair in 2026. They appreciated India’s efforts to bring member countries together through productive discussions on key priority areas.
The meeting was conducted in an atmosphere of mutual respect, trust and consensus-based decision-making, reflecting the shared commitment of BRICS countries towards strengthening cooperation on environmental and climate-related challenges.
The discussions are expected to contribute to greater coordination among BRICS nations on sustainable development and climate action, while advancing common priorities through dialogue and cooperation.
