Siliguri, August 22, 2026: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah chaired a high-level meeting in Siliguri to review the security of the strategically important Siliguri Corridor, also known as the “Chicken’s Neck.”

The meeting was attended by senior officials and key stakeholders, with discussions focusing on strengthening security arrangements in the corridor and ensuring effective coordination among agencies responsible for its protection.

During the review, the Union Home Minister assessed the status of various infrastructure projects being undertaken in the Siliguri Corridor, particularly those considered critical from the national security perspective. The progress of these projects and measures required for their timely completion were also examined.

The Siliguri Corridor holds immense strategic importance as it connects India’s northeastern states with the rest of the country. The government has been focusing on strengthening security infrastructure, connectivity and the presence of security agencies in the region.

The review underlines the Centre’s continued focus on safeguarding the corridor and strengthening critical infrastructure in one of India’s most strategically sensitive regions.
