Ramban, June 18: In a significant breakthrough, Ramban Police has solved a major theft case involving the theft of electric wire and recovered approximately 471 kilograms of stolen wire worth around ₹5 lakh. Six accused persons have been arrested in connection with the case.
According to police, unknown persons stole two drums of electric wire from Kowbagh, Ramban, during the intervening night of June 11 and 12, 2026. Following the incident, a case was registered at Police Station Ramban, and an intensive investigation was launched.
During the investigation, police teams analyzed digital trails and technical evidence, which led them to a blue three-wheeler load carrier covered with a green tarpaulin and a red scooty seen near the crime scene. Further investigation identified the vehicle as registration number JK18A-3726, registered in the name of Irshad Hussain Dar of Hovra Yaripora, Kulgam.
A police team led by PSI Aftab Ahmed and PSI Irfan Hussain, with assistance from Police Station Qaimoh, traced and seized the vehicle from Kulgam. During questioning, Irshad Hussain Dar admitted his role in transporting the stolen wire and disclosed the names of other individuals involved.
The investigation revealed that Sameer Ahmad of Kowbagh, Ramban, had arranged the sale of the stolen wire. Along with associates Pervaiz Ahmad, Mohd Shakir, and Imtiyaz Sheikh, he allegedly loaded the stolen property into the vehicle and escorted it up to the National Highway on a scooty before it was transported towards Srinagar.
Based on disclosures made during interrogation, police recovered around 471 kilograms of stolen electric wire from the premises of a scrap dealer, Zamin Amin of Yaripora, Kulgam. The stolen property and the vehicle used in the crime were seized as per legal procedures.
Police subsequently arrested co-accused Muhid Hassan of Yaripora, Kulgam. Further raids led to the arrest of Sameer Ahmad, Pervaiz Ahmad, Mohd Shakir, and Imtiyaz Ahmed from Kowbagh, Ramban.
With the arrest of all six accused and the recovery of the stolen property, the case has been substantially solved. Police said further investigation is underway to identify any additional persons involved and uncover other aspects of the case.
The investigation was carried out under the guidance of the DSP Headquarters and SHO Ramban. Ramban Police reiterated its commitment to protecting public property and taking strict action against criminal activities.
