MODI GOVERNMENT AT 12: A REPORT CARD OF THE 2014 PROMISES

New Delhi, June 2026: Twelve years after Narendra Modi first assumed office as Prime Minister in 2014, several of the Bharatiya Janata Party's major electoral promises have either been fulfilled, partially achieved, or continue to be subjects of political debate.

Among the most significant commitments that have been fulfilled are the abrogation of Article 370 and Article 35A in Jammu and Kashmir in 2019, the construction and inauguration of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya in January 2024, the expansion of Digital India initiatives, and the rapid growth of the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), which has transformed digital transactions across the country.
The government has also overseen major investments in highways, railways, airports, ports, and other infrastructure projects. Welfare initiatives such as the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana and Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) systems have expanded financial inclusion and streamlined the delivery of government benefits.

However, some promises remain only partially fulfilled. The Make in India initiative has led to growth in sectors such as mobile manufacturing and electronics, but manufacturing's contribution to India's GDP has not reached the levels originally envisioned. Similarly, while schemes such as PM-KISAN have supported farmers, the goal of substantially increasing farmers' incomes remains a topic of discussion.

Several issues continue to generate debate among policymakers, economists, and political parties. Employment generation remains a key concern, with discussions continuing over the pace and quality of job creation. Efforts to tackle black money have included legislative and administrative measures, though the overall impact remains contested.

Concerns regarding unemployment and income inequality also continue to feature prominently in public discourse.
As the Modi Government completes twelve years in office, supporters highlight achievements in infrastructure, governance reforms, digital transformation, and national integration, while critics point to unresolved challenges in employment, agriculture, and economic equity.

The government's twelve-year journey presents a mixed but significant record, reflecting both major accomplishments and ongoing challenges that continue to shape India's political and economic landscape.
