Reasi Police Crack Cow Lifting Case; Two Accused Arrested, Vehicle Seized from Patnitop

Reasi, May 02, 2026: In a major breakthrough, Reasi Police have successfully cracked a cow lifting case reported from Katra and arrested two accused persons involved in the crime.
The case surfaced after a CCTV video went viral on social media on March 30, 2026, showing unidentified individuals attempting to lift a cow from the Chintamani area of Katra using a Bolero vehicle (JK02AL-3700). Acting swiftly, Police Station Katra registered FIR No. 93/2026 under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, and launched an investigation.
During the course of investigation, police teams conducted multiple raids and utilized both technical and human intelligence to trace the culprits. As a result of sustained efforts, the vehicle used in the crime was seized from Patnitop.
Two accused persons have been arrested and identified as:
Mohd Basharat S/o Mohd Saleem R/o Kheri, Udhampur
Ashaq Mohd S/o Mohd Rafiq R/o Kheri, Udhampur
The operation was carried out under the supervision of SSP Reasi Mukund Tibrewal, with active leadership from SHO Katra Insp. Ranjeet Singh Rao, SDPO Katra Dr. Bhishm Dubey, and SP Katra Kameshwar Puri.
Further investigation is underway to identify and apprehend other absconding accomplices. Special police teams have been constituted to ensure their early arrest.
Reasi Police reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order and taking strict action against criminal elements involved in such unlawful activities.
