NITI Aayog Unveils Roadmap for India’s Semiconductor Industry
New Delhi, May 30: In a significant step towards strengthening India’s technological and manufacturing capabilities, NITI Aayog has released a comprehensive 10-year roadmap titled “The Future of India’s Semiconductor Industry.” The report outlines a strategic vision to transform India into a major global semiconductor manufacturing hub by 2035.
Prepared by NITI Aayog’s Frontier Tech Hub, the roadmap highlights the urgent need to reduce India’s heavy dependence on semiconductor imports and build a self-reliant semiconductor ecosystem. The report provides detailed recommendations covering semiconductor design, fabrication, packaging, research and development, talent development, and supply chain resilience.
According to the roadmap, India has the potential to become a key player in the global semiconductor value chain by leveraging government incentives, attracting international investments, and strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities. The strategy also focuses on fostering innovation, expanding skilled workforce development programs, and encouraging partnerships between industry, academia, and government institutions.
The report comes at a time when semiconductors are increasingly recognized as critical components powering modern technologies, including artificial intelligence, telecommunications, consumer electronics, automobiles, defense systems, and advanced computing.
NITI Aayog emphasized that achieving the roadmap’s objectives would not only enhance India's technological sovereignty but also generate substantial employment opportunities, boost exports, and support the country’s ambition of becoming a global technology powerhouse.
The roadmap is expected to serve as a guiding framework for policymakers, industry stakeholders, investors, and research institutions as India accelerates its efforts to establish a competitive and resilient semiconductor ecosystem over the next decade.
