Anantnag, May 5, 2026:
In a major breakthrough in the ongoing crackdown against drug trafficking, Anantnag Police have arrested a notorious lady drug peddler along with contraband substance during a naka checking operation.
According to official sources, a police team from Dialgam Police Post had established a routine naka at Laalan Bypass. During the checking, a suspicious woman approaching from Bondialgam towards Laalan attempted to flee after noticing the police presence. Acting swiftly, the naka party apprehended her on the spot.
During the search, police recovered a heroin-like substance from her possession. The accused has been identified as Shugafta Akhter, daughter of Mohd Hussain Dar, a resident of Dangerpora, Anantnag.
A case has been registered under FIR No. 130/2026 under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway.
Police officials stated that the accused is a notorious and most-wanted drug peddler, previously involved in multiple narcotics cases. Her arrest is being considered a significant success in the district’s ongoing campaign against drug abuse and trafficking.
Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to continue strict action against drug peddlers to safeguard society, especially the youth, from the menace of drugs.
