J&K Government to File Review Petition in Supreme Court on Teachers’ TET Issue: Sakina Itoo

Srinagar, May 30, 2026: Education Minister Sakina Itoo has stated that the Jammu & Kashmir Government remains fully committed to safeguarding the interests of teachers concerning the ongoing Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) issue and will soon file a review petition before the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India.
In a statement shared through her official social media account on Saturday, the Minister said that the government has consistently acted responsibly and proactively on the matter. She emphasized that the issue has been taken up repeatedly and followed by concrete action aimed at protecting the interests of teachers across Jammu and Kashmir.
Sakina Itoo said that the government has already accorded sanction for filing a review petition before the Hon’ble Supreme Court. She further informed that the Department of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, through a communication dated May 26, 2026, has directed its Standing Counsel to initiate the necessary legal proceedings in the case.
According to the Minister, the review petition has already been prepared and is expected to be filed before the Supreme Court in the coming week. She reiterated that the government has taken similar steps in the past whenever required to protect the rights and interests of teachers.
“The Government has always acted responsibly and proactively. We have consistently taken up this matter and followed it up with concrete action. We remain fully committed to safeguarding the interests of our teachers,” the Minister said.
The announcement has brought renewed hope to thousands of teachers in Jammu and Kashmir who have been closely monitoring developments related to the TET issue. Teacher organizations and affected candidates are expected to closely watch the legal proceedings in the coming days as the matter moves towards judicial review.
Further developments are awaited once the review petition is formally filed before the Hon’ble Supreme Court.
