Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a major crackdown against illegal liquor trade under the #NashaMuktaJammuKashmirAbhiyan and arrested one bootlegger in the Poond area of Basohli, Kathua district on Monday.
According to a police press release, a team from Police Station Basohli, acting under the supervision of senior officers and overall guidance of Mohita Sharma, apprehended one person identified as Suresh Kumar, son of Daleep Singh, a resident of Ward No. 02 Godali, Tehsil Basohli.
During checking and patrolling in the Poond area, police recovered 27 bottles of JK Excise Whisky, including 12 bottles of JK Special Whisky (750 ml each) and 15 bottles of JK Special Whisky (250 ml each), along with 4 canes of Godfather Beer from his possession.
Police registered FIR No. 24/2026 under Section 48(a) of the Excise Act at Police Station Basohli. The accused was arrested on the spot, while the seized liquor was taken into custody.
Police officials stated that the accused was allegedly carrying the liquor illegally with the intention of selling it for unlawful profit in the area. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
SSP Kathua Mohita Sharma reiterated that strict action will continue against individuals involved in illegal trade and transportation of illicit liquor. Local residents appreciated the efforts of Kathua Police for taking prompt action against illegal activities.
