Rajouri, Jammu & Kashmir:
In a deeply moving story of compassion and timely governance, an 11-year-old girl in Rajouri has regained her ability to hear, bringing renewed hope and joy to her life.
The young girl, born with a hearing impairment, had earlier received a cochlear implant that allowed her to experience sound, communicate, and attend school like other children. However, tragedy struck when the device stopped functioning over the past year, forcing her back into silence.
Coming from a financially struggling family—her father a daily wage labourer and her mother a house help—the cost of repairing or replacing the device was beyond their means.
Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Abhishek Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Rajouri, stepped in with immediate financial assistance. With additional support from Promise Bank and coordinated efforts of the Social Welfare Department, the restoration of the hearing device was prioritized.
The moment the cochlear implant was successfully reactivated turned into an emotional celebration for the child and her family. The return of sound not only restored her hearing but also revived her confidence, education, and connection with the world.
In a heartfelt gesture, the girl later visited the DC Office Rajouri to personally thank the Deputy Commissioner. In an inspiring moment, she was invited to sit on the DC’s chair—symbolizing encouragement, dignity, and inclusion.
She also expressed her gratitude to District Social Welfare Officer Abdul Raheem and all those who contributed to changing her life.
This inspiring story highlights how compassionate leadership, community support, and timely intervention can bring real transformation—turning silence into hope and opportunity.
