Kathua Police Crack Down on Vehicle Lifters, Recover 9 Motorcycles; Two Arrested

In a major success against vehicle theft, Jammu & Kashmir Police in Kathua have arrested two accused and recovered nine stolen motorcycles during a special drive against vehicle lifters in the district.
According to officials, the operation was carried out under the overall supervision of SSP Kathua, Ms. Mohita Sharma (IPS). The police solved a theft case and successfully apprehended two suspects involved in multiple motorcycle thefts.
The case originated from a complaint filed on April 3, 2026, by Devinder Kumar, a resident of Chapaki Kalan, Hiranagar, Kathua, who reported the theft of his motorcycle (Reg. No. JK08G-3139) from near AK Gupta Hospital. Subsequently, FIR No. 165/2025 under Section 303(2) BNS was registered at Police Station Kathua.
Acting swiftly, a police team led by Inspector Ashish Sharma, SHO PS Kathua, under the supervision of Additional SP Sunil Kumar Kesar and DySP Headquarters Ravinder Singh, launched an investigation and arrested two accused:
Dwaraka Prasad, resident of Dhaloti, Tehsil Marheen, Rajbagh Kathua
Keshav Sharma, resident of Mirpur Dhaloti, Tehsil Marheen, Rajbagh
During interrogation, the accused confessed to their involvement in the thefts. The police recovered the stolen motorcycle belonging to the complainant, along with eight additional motorcycles suspected to be stolen. All recovered vehicles have been seized under relevant legal provisions.
Kathua Police reiterated their commitment to curbing theft and urged citizens to report any suspicious or illegal activities by dialing 112 or 9858034100, assuring that the identity of informants will remain confidential.
