In a historic administrative move, the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh has approved the creation of five new districts, significantly reshaping the governance structure of the Union Territory.

The newly created districts include Nubra, Sham, Changthang, Zanskar, and Drass, increasing the total number of districts in Ladakh from two to seven.

According to the official statement, this long-pending demand of the people has now been fulfilled, marking a major step toward strengthening grassroots governance and improving administrative efficiency in remote regions.

The decision aligns with the development vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and has been backed by the Ministry of Home Affairs under the leadership of Home Minister Amit Shah.

Officials stated that the formation of new districts will:

Improve delivery of public services

Boost employment and local development

Promote entrepreneurship in remote areas
