AI Initiatives to Transform Education & Healthcare in J&K: Sakina Itoo


Srinagar, April 13:
Hon’ble Cabinet Minister for Health & Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education, Sakina Itoo, on Monday chaired a high-level meeting to review proposed Artificial Intelligence (AI) initiatives presented by Indian Institute of Technology Jammu, aimed at bringing transformational reforms in the School Education and Health sectors across Jammu and Kashmir.
The meeting was attended by senior officials, including Commissioner Secretary Health & Medical Education M. Raju, CEO State Health Agency Anant Dwivedi, Directors of School Education Jammu/Kashmir, and other officers who participated both physically and virtually.
📚 Focus on AI in Education
During the meeting, the Minister stressed the need for a well-structured and age-appropriate AI curriculum from primary to higher secondary levels. The curriculum will cover:
AI fundamentals
Responsible use of generative AI
Prompt engineering
Computational thinking
She directed IIT Jammu to hold detailed consultations with the School Education Department to ensure that ground realities are reflected before finalizing the initiative.
Highlighting the importance of preparing students for a technology-driven future, Sakina Itoo called for introducing AI literacy in government schools through an inclusive and systematic approach. She also emphasized integrating AI initiatives with existing platforms such as Smart Classrooms and Atal Tinkering Labs.
🌐 Inclusive & Practical Learning
The Minister underscored the need for experiential learning, stating that AI-based education will enable students to develop solutions for local challenges. She also directed that AI content be made available in regional languages to ensure accessibility for students in remote and underserved areas.
🏥 AI to Strengthen Healthcare System
Reviewing proposals for the health sector, Sakina Itoo highlighted the role of AI in building a transparent and efficient healthcare system. Key focus areas include:
Fraud detection in AB-PMJAY/SEHAT schemes
Optimization of hospital operations
Improved bed management and workforce planning
Enhanced ambulance services and infrastructure use
She stressed that AI can significantly improve service delivery and ensure benefits reach genuine beneficiaries.
🤝 Roadmap for Implementation
The Minister directed all concerned departments to work closely with IIT Jammu to develop a comprehensive roadmap and phased implementation strategy aligned with government priorities.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to modernization, she stated that integrating AI into education and healthcare is a major step toward building a transparent, efficient, and citizen-centric governance system in Jammu and Kashmir.
During the meeting, IIT Jammu, along with its Institute Incubation & Innovation Council (I3C) and implementation partner Innefu Labs Limited, presented detailed proposals for AI-driven interventions.
