The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved an investment of ₹26,069.50 crore for the construction of the Kamala Hydro Electric Project (HEP) in the districts of Kamle, Kra Daadi, and Kurung Kumey in Arunachal Pradesh.

Alongside Kamala HEP, NHPC Limited is developing three major projects in the region:
Subansiri Lower Project – 2000 MW
Dibang Multipurpose Project – 2880 MW
Etalin Project – 3097 MW
These projects span across Arunachal Pradesh and Assam, significantly boosting India’s renewable energy capacity.
