New Delhi, March 18, 2026:
The Supreme Court of India has issued an official circular regarding the observance of the Eid-ul-Fitr holiday, depending on the visibility of the moon.
According to the circular, if Eid-ul-Fitr is observed on March 20, 2026 (Friday) or March 22, 2026 (Sunday) instead of the initially expected date of March 21, 2026 (Saturday), and if it is declared a Gazetted Holiday by the Government of India, the Supreme Court and its Registry will observe the holiday accordingly.
However, the Court clarified that the Registry will remain open on March 21, 2026 (Saturday).
The decision has been taken to ensure flexibility in accordance with the traditional practice of moon sighting, which determines the exact date of Eid-ul-Fitr.
