Samba Police Foil Two Bovine Smuggling Attempts, Arrest Two Accused

Samba, March 23, 2026: Continuing its drive against illegal bovine smuggling, Samba Police successfully foiled two separate smuggling attempts in the jurisdictions of Police Stations Purmandal and Ghagwal, arrested two smugglers, and rescued two bovines.

 Acting on reliable information, a police team from Police Station Purmandal intercepted an attempt in village Purmandal, where one bovine was being smuggled on foot. 

The police team apprehended two accused, identified as Sadam Hussain Bookad, son of Mukhtar Mohd Bookad, and Babar Hussain Bookad, son of Nizam-ud-Din Bookad, both residents of Pooru, Adigam in Anantnag district and presently residing at Rajool, tehsil Bari Brahmana, district Samba. 

A case under FIR No. 14/2026 under sections 223 BNS and 11 PCA Act has been registered at Police Station Purmandal, and investigation has been initiated. 

In another incident, acting on specific inputs, a police team from Police Post Rajpura of Police Station Ghagwal rushed to Madoon after receiving information that an Alto car bearing registration number JK08A-7233 carrying a bovine had overturned due to over-speeding. 

Upon reaching the spot, police rescued one bovine which was found tied in a cruel manner inside the vehicle and being transported illegally without valid permission.

The vehicle involved in the smuggling was also seized. A separate case under FIR No. 33/2026 under sections 281/223 BNS and 11 PCA Act has been registered at Police Station Ghagwal, and further investigation is underway. 

Samba Police reiterated its firm commitment to curb bovine smuggling and appealed to the public to cooperate by sharing information about such illegal activities.
