KVKs Transferred to University of Ladakh, AASUL Welcomes Historic Move

New Delhi/Ladakh, March 26, 2026:
The Agriculture & Allied Students Union of Ladakh (AASUL) has welcomed the long-awaited transfer of Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) to the University of Ladakh, calling it a major milestone for the Union Territory.
The transfer, which was finalized on March 24, 2026, marks the culmination of persistent efforts by AASUL since Ladakh became a separate Union Territory in 2019. Despite the reorganization, six units of SKUAST-Kashmir located in Ladakh had remained under its control for several years.

Significant progress was achieved in 2024 with the transfer of two research stations in Leh and Kargil to the University of Ladakh. However, four remaining KVKs continued under SKUAST-Kashmir until their final transfer this year.

The formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the transfer was signed at the ICAR campus, Pusa Road, New Delhi, in the presence of senior officials, including the Deputy Director General (Extension), ICAR, and the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ladakh.
AASUL credited the achievement to the collective efforts of multiple stakeholders, including government officials, institutional leaders, and student organizations. The Union expressed gratitude to the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, senior bureaucrats, university authorities, and various public representatives for their continuous support.

The Union also acknowledged the contributions of social activists and student bodies who stood in solidarity throughout the long struggle.
Describing the development as a “collective success of the people of Ladakh,” AASUL reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening student welfare and promoting agricultural development in the region.
