Kathua Police Arrest Drug Peddler, Seize 4.85 Grams of Heroin near GDC DewalKathua | March 8, 2026


Continuing its ongoing war against drugs, the Jammu and Kashmir Police in Kathua district arrested a drug peddler and recovered approximately 4.85 grams of heroin-like narcotics (commonly known as chitta) near Government Degree College (GDC) Dewal in Billawar.

According to an official press release, the operation was carried out under the overall supervision of SSP Kathua Ms. Mohita Sharma (IPS). A police team from Police Station Billawar, led by SHO Billawar Inspector Zaheer Mushtaq, and working under the supervision of SP Upper Kathua Aamir Iqbal and SDPO Billawar Neeraj Padyar, established a special vehicle checking naka near GDC Dewal on March 7, 2026.

During the naka checking, the police team intercepted a suspicious individual. Upon questioning and search, the person identified himself as Major Singh, son of Sansar Singh, resident of Amuwala, Tehsil Ramkot, District Kathua. During his personal search, police recovered around 4.85 grams of heroin (chitta) from his possession.

The accused was immediately arrested on the spot, and the recovered narcotic substance was seized by the police.
In connection with the incident, FIR No. 42/2026 under sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Billawar. Further investigation is currently underway to identify the forward and backward linkages of the drug supply network operating in the region.
Police officials stated that Kathua Police remain committed to eliminating the menace of drug trafficking and ensuring a drug-free society through continuous and strict action against drug peddlers.
