Jammu, March 22, 2026:
In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Jammu Police arrested a notorious drug peddler and recovered approximately 262 grams of heroin (chitta) worth ₹1.5 crore in the Miran Sahib area.
According to officials, the operation was carried out on March 21, 2026, by a naka team deployed at Tutray Chowk, Ring Road under the jurisdiction of Police Station Miran Sahib. The team was led by PSI Rajan Choudhary and included HC Arjun Kumar, SPO Lucky Choudhary, SPO Suresh Kumar, and SPO Gharu Singh, under the supervision of SHO Miran Sahib, Inspector Jatinder Singh.
At around 7:40 PM, the police noticed a suspicious individual moving towards the Ring Road. On seeing the police party, the individual attempted to flee but was swiftly apprehended.
The accused has been identified as Harpal Singh, son of Puran Singh, a resident of Ward No. 14, Kathua district. During the search, police recovered:
262 grams of heroin-like substance (chitta)
₹1.5 lakh cash
A weighing machine
A mobile phone
Legal formalities under Section 50 of the NDPS Act were carried out in the presence of SDPO RS Pura. Subsequently, a case has been registered under FIR No. 44/2026 under sections 8/21/22/27-A of the NDPS Act at Police Station Miran Sahib.
The accused has been taken into custody, and the recovered contraband has been seized. Further investigation is underway to trace the source of the narcotics and identify forward and backward linkages in the network.
Jammu Police has reiterated its strong commitment to eliminating the drug menace from society and has urged the public to cooperate by sharing any information related to drug trafficking.
