Farooq Abdullah Assassination Attempt Foiled in Jammu, SIT Formed for Investigation



Jammu, March 12:
An alleged assassination attempt on former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and National Conference President Dr. Farooq Abdullah was foiled by police in Jammu.
According to an official order issued by the Zonal Police Headquarters Jammu, the incident took place on March 11, 2026, when Dr. Farooq Abdullah was attending a marriage ceremony at Royal Park Banquet Hall, Greater Kailash, Jammu.

At around 10:10 PM, while the protected leader was leaving the venue, an individual reportedly brandished a revolver and attempted to open fire from close range. However, the attempt was successfully thwarted due to the prompt action of the police personnel deployed with the protectee.

Following the incident, FIR No. 29/2026 has been registered at Police Station Gangyal under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 3/25 of the Arms Act.

Considering the seriousness and sensitivity of the case, the Jammu Police has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the supervision of the DIG Jammu–Samba–Kathua Range to conduct a thorough investigation.
The SIT includes senior police officers from Jammu district and police headquarters. Authorities have directed the team to complete the investigation promptly while adhering to the statutory timeframe.

The incident has raised serious concerns regarding the security of political leaders in the region, and further investigation is currently underway.
