ECI Announces Enhanced Voter Facilities for 2026 Elections

New Delhi, March 22, 2026

The Election Commission of India has issued a press note announcing enhanced voter facilities and assistance measures for the upcoming General Elections and by-elections in 2026.

The Commission confirmed that elections will be held for Legislative Assemblies in Assam, Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal, along with by-elections in six states.

Key Highlights:

Facilities at 2,18,807 Polling Stations:
All polling stations across the country will be equipped with Assured Minimum Facilities (AMFs) to ensure voter comfort and accessibility.

Basic Amenities for Voters:

  • Drinking water
  • Waiting areas with shade
  • Toilets with water
  • Adequate lighting
  • Ramps for PwD (Persons with Disabilities) voters
  • Proper signage and standard voting compartments

Seating Arrangements:
Benches will be placed at regular intervals to help voters sit while waiting in queues.

Voter Awareness Posters:
Standardized Voter Facilitation Posters (VFPs) will be displayed at all polling stations, providing details such as candidate lists, voting guidelines, and required identification documents.

Voter Assistance Booths:
Special booths with trained officials will help voters locate their polling booth numbers and details in electoral rolls.

Mobile Phone Deposit Facility:
A new facility will allow voters to safely deposit their mobile phones outside polling stations before entering to vote.

Focus on Smooth Voting Experience

The Commission emphasized that all arrangements will be strictly monitored to ensure compliance and to provide a seamless, safe, and voter-friendly experience during the elections.
