New Delhi, February 27:
A Delhi court has discharged former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the excise policy case, prompting sharp political reactions from opposition leaders across the country.
The special court, while hearing the matter related to the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy, reportedly declined to take cognizance of the charges filed by the investigating agency, leading to Kejriwal’s discharge from the case. The development has intensified the political debate between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and opposition parties.
Reacting strongly to the court’s decision, Akhilesh Yadav, president of the Samajwadi Party, described the development as a “moral death sentence” for the BJP. He alleged that central agencies were misused to target opposition leaders and claimed that the court’s decision had exposed what he termed as politically motivated actions.
Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti also welcomed the court’s order. She stated that the verdict raises serious questions about the use of investigative agencies against political opponents and emphasized the importance of protecting democratic institutions.
Meanwhile, BJP leaders maintained that the legal process should be respected and reiterated that their party believes in judicial proceedings. They stated that investigations were carried out as per law and denied allegations of political vendetta.
The case has been a major political flashpoint over the past months, with opposition parties accusing the central government of misusing agencies, while the BJP has consistently denied such claims.
With the court’s latest decision, the political temperature is expected to rise further as parties gear up for upcoming electoral battles.
