Jammu & Kashmir Budget 2026–27: Free LPG Cylinders for All AAY Households

Jammu & Kashmir Budget 2026–27: Free LPG Cylinders for All AAY Households

Jammu, Feb 2026:
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday announced a major welfare initiative in the Jammu & Kashmir Budget 2026–27, declaring free LPG cylinder support for all Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) households across the Union Territory.
Presenting the budget in the Legislative Assembly, the Chief Minister said the decision aims to ease daily household expenses, improve public health, and provide meaningful cost-of-living relief to the most economically vulnerable families.
“By ensuring access to clean cooking fuel, we are not only reducing financial stress on poor households but also protecting families—especially women and children—from the harmful effects of solid fuels like firewood and coal,” the Chief Minister stated.
Key Highlights of the Announcement:
Free LPG cylinders for all AAY beneficiary households in J&K
Focus on clean energy adoption and reduced indoor air pollution
Direct support to the poorest and most vulnerable families
A step toward better health outcomes and environmental sustainability
The move is expected to benefit thousands of low-income households, particularly in rural and remote areas, where traditional cooking fuels are still widely used. Experts believe the scheme will significantly reduce respiratory illnesses linked to indoor smoke while also lowering monthly household expenses.
The LPG support scheme forms part of the government’s broader strategy to promote inclusive growth, social welfare, and improved living standards in Jammu and Kashmir.
Officials said detailed guidelines on implementation and distribution will be issued soon to ensure smooth rollout of the scheme.
