Jammu, February 6:
The Jammu and Kashmir government on Thursday presented the Budget for the financial year 2025–26, with a strong focus on inclusive growth, employment generation, and social welfare. The budget was presented by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who also holds the Finance portfolio.
The budget outlines major initiatives aimed at easing the cost of living for vulnerable sections, strengthening infrastructure, and boosting economic activity across the Union Territory.
Key Highlights:
The total budget size has been increased to support development and welfare-oriented schemes.
Over 23,000 new jobs have been announced across various sectors.
Free LPG cylinder support has been announced for eligible AAY households to reduce household expenses and improve health outcomes.
The government plans to introduce 200 electric buses to strengthen public transport and promote clean mobility.
New emergency hospitals and medical facilities will be developed, especially in border and remote areas.
Special focus has been given to education, agriculture, tourism, and handicrafts to create sustainable livelihoods.
Presenting the budget, the Chief Minister said the aim is to ensure balanced regional development, fiscal discipline, and direct benefits to the common people. The budget has received mixed political reactions, with the government calling it people-centric while opposition parties raised concerns over implementation.
The 2025–26 budget is expected to play a key role in shaping Jammu and Kashmir’s economic and social development in the coming year.
