Budgam, February 14, 2026:
In a continued crackdown on drug trafficking, the Budgam Police have arrested a drug peddler and seized approximately 59 grams of charas-like substance in the Beerwah area of the district.
According to official sources, a police team from Police Station Beerwah, led by Head Constable Mohammad Ayaz, was conducting routine naka checking near a service station in Beerwah when they intercepted a suspicious individual. Upon noticing the presence of police personnel, the suspect allegedly attempted to flee but was swiftly apprehended by the team.
During a personal search, officers recovered around 59 grams of charas-like substance concealed in corn husk from his possession. The accused was taken into custody on the spot, and the contraband was seized following due legal procedures.
The arrested individual has been identified as Zahoor Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Hameed Bhat, a resident of Sunergund, Budgam. In this connection, FIR No. 23/2026 has been registered under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Beerwah. Further investigation into the matter is currently underway.
The police reiterated their firm commitment to curbing the menace of drug trafficking and urged citizens to cooperate by sharing credible information to help build a drug-free society.
